Dhaka’s Air Quality Poses Risk to Skin and Respiratory Health Today
Air pollution in Dhaka has increased significantly today, raising the city to the 14th position in global air pollution rankings. The air is particularly unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as individuals with asthma, respiratory issues, and skin conditions. According to measurements taken in the morning, Dhaka’s air quality score is 123.
Meanwhile, Lahore in Pakistan has topped the pollution rankings for over a week with disaster-level air quality. Other countries in the top five most polluted cities include India, Congo, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan. This information was released by the Air Quality Index (IQAir) on Monday.
As of 9:30 a.m., Lahore remains at the top of the global air pollution list with an alarming score of 770. According to air quality measurements, scores above 301 are classified as “hazardous,” indicating Lahore’s air is at a disaster level. Delhi in India holds second place with a pollution score of 297, also deemed hazardous.
Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo ranks third, with a score of 200, which is considered “unhealthy” as per the 151-200 range. Vietnam’s Hanoi takes fourth place with a score of 194, and Uzbekistan’s Tashkent ranks fifth with a score of 170, both cities’ air quality being classified as “unhealthy.”
In terms of air quality scores, a range of 0–50 is considered good, while 51–100 is deemed moderate. Scores between 101 and 150 are unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151–200 are unhealthy for all, 201–300 are very unhealthy, and anything over 301 is classified as hazardous.
