Bangladeshi Accused of $7M Illegal Game Streaming in New York

One of the brothers resides in New York, while the other is in Dhaka. The two Bangladeshi brothers were involved in illegally streaming NBA, NFL, and NHL games. For this, they charged a minimum fee of $10. They have accumulated more than $7 million through this operation. Not only that, but their illegal streams have caused over $100 million in damages to various offended parties. This information was reported by Fortune magazine, citing the U.S. judicial department.

Among the accused, Noor Nabi Chowdhury (56) lives in Chiktoogah, New York. He was arrested on Tuesday morning. His brother, Mohammad Rahman (36), lives in Dhaka. They are accused of operating an illegal live stream under the name “247/TV Stream,” where they charged a monthly fee. They broadcast sports programs and various TV shows without proper copyright.

Court documents reveal that Noor Nabi Chowdhury and his brother Mohammad Rahman have been running this illegal operation for several years. Through their “247/TV Stream,” they collected over $7 million in subscription fees from customers. It is estimated that their actions caused more than $100 million in damages to legitimate copyright holders. Furthermore, they concealed their identities and used someone else’s information to carry out this scheme.

During the court hearing, Chief of the Criminal Division, Nicole M. Argentierri, said, “The two accused brothers broadcast copyrighted live sports programs and TV shows without authorization, causing financial harm to legitimate owners.”

Eastern District Attorney, Brian Peace, stated, “Our office and the judiciary are committed to taking a firm stance against digital piracy.”

William S. Walker, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York Field Office, said, “According to the charges, Noor Nabi Chowdhury and his brother Mohammad Rahman were operating an illegal streaming site under someone else’s identity, causing over $100 million in damages to copyright owners.”

The government has seized the domain names used for the operation of “247/TV Stream.” Additionally, their servers in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have also been confiscated.

If the charges are proven, Noor Nabi Chowdhury and Mohammad Rahman could face up to 30 years in prison.
