SAFF Champions Return: Open-Top Bus Welcomes Bangladesh Women’s Team
SAFF Champions Return Home: Open-Top Bus Ready to Honor Women’s Team
The Bangladesh women’s football team, champions of the SAFF Women’s Championship for the second consecutive time, returned home on Thursday, bringing the trophy back with them. Sabina, Rituparna, and the team landed at around 2:30 PM Bangladesh time.
As before, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has organized an open-top bus reception, but this time with a slight twist. Reflecting the country’s recent political shifts, the bus is decorated solely with images of the SAFF champions.
Previously, the Ministry of Sports arranged the team bus, which included images of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other political figures, sparking controversy as some felt it was irrelevant. This time, BFF has taken charge, making professionalism a priority. The bus exclusively features images of the players and their victory celebration.
The bus, bearing logos of the women’s team’s main sponsor Dhaka Bank, as well as other BFF sponsors like Pran’s Nutri, Aamra Internet, and American International University-Bangladesh, will carry the team from the airport to the BFF headquarters.
Outside the airport, hundreds of cameras and journalists eagerly awaited the team, capturing the magnitude of Sabina and Rituparna’s achievement. On Wednesday, they defended their SAFF title by defeating hosts Nepal 2-1 in the final at Kathmandu’s Dasarath Stadium, marking another proud moment on foreign soil.
