Eyes on Netherlands Series, Asia Cup Not Yet in Simmons’ Plans

After a three-week training camp, Bangladesh are ready to face the Netherlands in a three-match T20I series. Many consider this series preparation for the Asia Cup, but coach Phil Simmons focuses only on the Netherlands challenge.

Bangladesh’s planned series against India was cancelled in August due to lack of government clearance, creating a long competitive gap.

To stay sharp, players trained on fitness and skills during camp, though they wanted match practice before the Asia Cup.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board arranged this series with the Netherlands to give players valuable competitive exposure before September’s big tournament.

All three matches will be played in Sylhet, starting August 30, followed by games on September 1 and 3.

Opener Liton Das hinted at tactical experiments, while Simmons remains pragmatic, insisting on focus against the immediate international opponent.

Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong in the Asia Cup group stage, aiming for the Super Four.

Critics question if the Netherlands series provides enough preparation, but Simmons believes every international game improves consistency and performance.

He explained, “It’s not about who we play, but how well we play and keep improving every game.”

Carrying lessons from their Sri Lanka tour, Bangladesh aim to sharpen their game further during the Sylhet series.

Simmons urged his players to treat each T20 match as a mini-final, building confidence before the Asia Cup.
