Road Accident Victims Get Tk 1.08 Crore Compensation

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chattogram Division organized a road safety dialogue on Friday morning at Newpara office. Tk 1.08 Crore Compensation Distributed to Road Accident Victims in Chattogram
Officials, stakeholders, and civil society members gathered to discuss major challenges in the transport sector.
The event started at 10:00 AM and focused on road accident causes and sustainable safety solutions.
BRTA officials, Chattogram District Administration, and police officers joined the discussion.
Transport owners, workers’ associations, and members of the Chattogram Press Club also participated.
Journalists from print, electronic, and online media attended the meeting. Speakers stressed the urgent need for joint action to reduce accidents.
They emphasized coordinated efforts to ensure safe travel for all citizens.
Road Safety Dialogue
Speakers at the dialogue highlighted transport problems such as reckless driving, poor roads, overloading, and low awareness among all.
They urged stricter traffic law enforcement and large-scale awareness programs to reduce accidents significantly.
Additionally, they emphasized training transport workers and introducing modern safety measures in public transport systems.
Compensation Distribution
Following the dialogue, BRTA distributed Tk 1.08 crore in compensation to victims and families affected by recent road accidents in Chattogram Metropolitan and District areas.
- Tk 13 lakh was handed over to five injured victims.
- Tk 95 lakh was given to the families of 19 deceased victims (Tk 5 lakh each).
The compensation aimed to provide financial support to families who lost their loved ones and to individuals struggling with injuries that disrupted their livelihoods.
Distinguished Guests
The program was graced by BRTA Chairman (Additional Secretary) Abu Momtaz Sad Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest. Special guests included CMP Traffic Division (North) Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Nesar Uddin Ahmed, PPM (recently promoted to Additional DIG), BRTA Director (Administration) Kamrul Islam, and Chattogram Division Director (Engineering) Masud Alam, along with other senior officials.
Commitment to Road Safety
Expressing solidarity with the victims, BRTA officials reiterated their commitment to safer roads.
“We are determined to ensure road safety. Preventing accidents requires awareness, law enforcement, and everyone’s cooperation,” said BRTA Chairman Abu Momtaz Sad Uddin Ahmed.
Road Accident Context
According to recent reports, Bangladesh witnesses over 5,000 fatalities and tens of thousands of injuries every year due to road crashes. Experts say most of these accidents are preventable with stricter enforcement of laws, better road infrastructure, and public awareness campaigns.
The compensation program in Chattogram marks an important step toward addressing the human cost of road accidents, while also reminding citizens and authorities alike that collective responsibility is vital to saving lives on the roads.
