Rural Women Strengthening Agriculture sector in Bangladesh

There are more than 70% landless, broken family, widow and divorcee rural women of Bangladesh are engaged in agriculture. Rural women have renounced their hearth and homes and put themselves in agriculture, small business or jobs for livelihood. They earn money doing hard labor. We congratulate them! The main reason to increase female dominating family is to struggle for survival which is changing the economy of Bangladesh.

According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) there are about 2 core 56 Lac labor are engaged in agriculture in 2010, among them 1 crore and 5 lac are women.  Participation of women worker in agriculture has been increased by 10.14% intervening of a decade. There is a mismatch of increasing the number of women worker in agriculture are different districts of Bangladesh. Till Rural women worker of agriculture in south-west region in Bangladesh are comparatively low than North Bengal.

In future, rural women will be a crucial source to eliminate labor crisis of agriculture sector in Bangladesh. Dr. Proteema Paul Mazumder, Ex. research fellow of BIDS remarks that creating opportunity in any sector of economy means economics development.  A study of University of Rajshahi revels that 58% of female chief family has been administered except any responsible male.  According to BBS the rate of widow is the highest in North Bengal. As a result, abundance of female chief family is exist in North Bengal of Bangladesh and the age limit of women are 30-49. Again after become the chief of the family, 90% of them have been changed their profession and involved themselves in income generating activities. For these reason their productivity is also increased. Preferences has been given to house hold centered small business or agriculture for selecting profession.

Govt. and Non-government Organization are providing support to employ due to the changing rural economy in agriculture sector. According to Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh has allocated 12 thousand crore for development, among them 46% has been allocated for woman development. Participation of woman in agriculture sector is the manifestation of their capability. It is required to increase their facilities and remove social constrain to withstand the opportunity.

Creating opportunity along with the distribution of labor in different sector of agriculture has been increased the demand of women labor. Comparatively soft work, especially after cutting the crops woman labor is the most essential for proper cleaning, sorting and storing. The number of house hold woman worker has been decreased due to participate in agricultural work. As a result financial solvency of rural women is increasing day by day. A few years ago, only divorcee and widow are become the chief of a family. Consequently the number of deprived was increased, but the scenario has been changed. Overcoming all of the difficulties, women are leading their families.

In future, Society, state and even economy will be stimulated for the result of increasing the number women as a chief of a family. As a result, self-confidence of a woman will be increased, torture after marriage will be decreased, women rights will be strengthen.
